General Channel Questions: Turning off annotations

Print

Video annotations, once published, are shown by default. You can turn them off on individual videos by clicking on the "Menu" button (on the bottom right of the video player). Additionally, you may turn off annotations for all videos by going to your Account page, clicking Playback Setup (on the left), then clicking "Annotations", and un-checking the box marked "Show annotations". Once you click the "Save Changes" button, annotations will be automatically disabled on all videos you watch.

To remove all annotations from one of your videos, simply delete them one by one from the editing view (click the "X" button on each annotation) and "Publish" your changes.

You can also disable annotations on embedded videos. To disable annotations on a video you'd like to embed on another site, just add &iv_load_policy=3 to the video's embed code.

Example:

<object width="425" height="344"<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TPfBhR56940&fs=1&iv_load_policy=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TPfBhR56940&fs=1&iv_load_policy=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed>/object>

By adding &iv_load_policy=3 to the video's embed code, the embedded video plays without displaying the annotations, as shown in the video below:

Please note: iv_load_policy=3 parameter means the annotations will be off by default in the embedded video, but it is still possible for the viewer to turn annotations on again via the video player's menu.
