Posting this here in case Anna is an actual employee (and if she is, I
doubt that's her real name, i.e. outsourcing)

Apparently when a reply is added to a thread, it doesn't bump it to
the front of the board. Hey Youtube, can you hear me way back there
in
1998? So yeah, I am posting this again.

Why the hell does the site make it so hard to report site abusers? I
am sick and f*cking tired of the white supremacist bullsh*t I find on
the site.

By the way, "14/88" is a white supremacist code term. And the
following users post white supremacist materials on the site. Note
all
the screen names with "1488" in them. I love how Youtube has
outsourced their customer service to countries that have no clue when
it comes to American phrases and euphemisms. It makes site abusers
and
problem users all that much harder to report and delete. That is, the
ones whose accounts haven't been deleted yet. These people post white
supremacist materials on the site, which is a TERMS OF SERVICE
VIOLATION. Report this accounts, so they are DELETED. Dirka dirka, can
you people hear me over there? Do they even know what this stuff is in
India?

AGAIN... Flagging videos doesn't help. It takes AT LEAST ten or
twenty
different users flagging a video before the outsourced peons notice
it. It would take me at least 72 continous hours to flag all these
things. Flagging individual users isn't availble -- you have to dig
through the site's help pages to do it. Its a non-option and would
cause reporting it to take at least two weeks. Youtube needs to
execute a sweep to get rid of these things. No wait time. No bullshit.
Tidy the site up, keep it out of the evening news.

It needs to be easier to report people who upload this shit. Do
people
who run the site ever look at these boards?

Congratulations to YouTube on making your site 99% unusable. The "no
longer available" message comes up on nearly every video I try to
watch, including one of my own. Whatever you guys did has broken
things badly, and it's time you owned up to it and made fixing it a
priority.

fix it or get a better way to contact a help desk. Pretty sad for a

I think i have found a fix for the "We're sorry, this video is no
longer available"error,I have found that Nvidia drivers are the cause
of thr problem in my case, so i would suggest you uninstall your
drivers and then try and reinstall them....it worked for me so it
should work for other people with this same problem.

Found out what worked for me. Try this:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Uncheck
'Automatically detect setings'.

Hope it helps.

mmm - not so sure if that solves the problem. How come I can watch 8
or 10 videos without any problems - then all of a sudden it starts
with its crap. Sometimes if I refresh the page 4,5,6 times the video
plays?

I make networks for a company, and i usualy make redundant/
loadbalanced network with 2 independent internet connections, this
means that the users IP can change in some cases, or most likely will
change when contacting a new server.
This means that my users cant user youtube, abt 80-90% of the videos
will come with this error "We're sorry, this video is no longer
available", this error message is obviously wrong and misleading, and
i encourage youtube to change it :)
well, there is 2 ways to fix this, youtube could remove the code that
block people who change IP or youtube can make a list of IP's
available for network administrators so we can hack our routers to
work around this issue.

I have been a youtube member for a few months, and so far my account
has run smoothly; whenever a problem arose, I was able to solve it.
However, the issue with the message "we're sorry, this video is
unavailable" on a black backdrop is an unending bombardment of
frustration that baffles me, as I have no google accelerator, nor
anything of the same category. However, in my search for an answer, I
made a google account to post a new forum topic, which never worked,
and which I swiftly abandoned (made this very day). I've been
encountering this problem for about a week now, and help would be
greatly appreciated.

worked fine, and now suddenly it's not working anymore... same message

I am likewise having the same issue with (so far as I've noticed) just
one of my videos.  Apparently it is available to others as the view
count continues to climb.  However, this video *is* also available to
me to view in MS IE 7 without issue.  However, in Firefox 2 (my
customary viewer) this video persists in giving the "no longer
available" message stated in damiensearles' comment, at least when I
try to play it in the normal modes.

Video in question is:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=vObmMg5jGSQ

In Firefox, however, the affected video IS viewable when I click
directly on the viewscreen in the recently updated menu accessed via
the "Edit Video" button.  It also seems to play in that menu when the
play button is clicked on the bottom bar for the video under edit.  I
do note however that when this page first loads the length is shown as
"0:00 / 0:00".  When the video screen or play button is clicked this
updates to 0:00 (then updating as it plays)  / 7:26.

As for adamatova's suggestion about adware, malware and the like, the
system in question was scanned with no reported bad actors as recently
as yesterday.  And as I stated, the video is available in some other
browsers (IE 7 being the only one I've definitely confirmed however).

I tend to suspect, given the timing here, that there may be some
undiagnosed bug as well that is only affecting some subset of videos
when FF2 tries to play them, perhaps introduced in the code for the
otherwise excellent new Edit Video screen.

Having now read the remaining traffic that seems relevant to this
issue, I should also note for YouTube bughunters, that I am also using
an nVidia card (GeForce 8500 GT w/512MB graphic RAM, drivers updated
within the last few weeks).  However, I stress again that so far I
have only gotten this message with one video of mine, still accessible
and playable through the edit menu.  I've had the same message a few
times with other videos, but assumed until now that they had been
pulled by the channel owners for various reasons.

PPS -- I've also noticed just now that the affected video reports as
unavailable ONLY in the high quality version.  I have my Firefox login
set to default to the high quality version, as all my recent uploads
have been processing to the mp4 version in addition to the "standard"
quality flash video that processes on the first rendering pass.  The
high quality version appears to be inaccessible in IE7 as well as
FF2.  I suspect it is also the flash render that is shown in the edit
menu without an option to view the better quality mp4.

Guys - (maybe its just me) - but I really appreciate all the comments
etc. The point is: EVERYTHING used to work just fine - whether it was
FF, or IE or whatever. The point is: Youtube has a huge problem - and
for some reason dont want to admit it. How come Monday everything
works fine, and I can watch 20 videos. Then Tuesday NOTHING works? The
Wednesday all is fine again ? Don't tell me its my PC - please !!!

Hello everyone!

I used to be able to play videos on YouTube without problems from a
limited user account, but for a couple of months they have only been
working when I start my browser with administrator privileges. Unless
I do that, I keep getting a message that says:

"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of
Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

I have been writing emails to YouTube's support till my fingers bleed,
telling them that they got a bug on their website, but they insist on
there being a problem being with my computer.

I have been talking to some guy named Mydhili from YouTube support for
a while, and I am posting the correspondence here, so you know what
I've tried so far (and to show how fruitless it was):

"Videos play fine when browser is run with administrator privileges,
but error message about an obsolete flash version is displayed when
browser is run from a limited user account.

Thanks for your email. This could be caused by a firewall or internet

streaming media from YouTube to pass the firewall. If you're not sure
how to do this, please contact the manufacturer of your firewall.

Hope this helps,

"Hi Mydhili,

I am not using any firewall or internet blocker. I can watch flash
videos on other websites without problems, for example on Google
Video. It even used to work on YouTube for months, until you guys
apparently decided to upgrade to a higher flash version, and since
that day it hasn't been working any more. It only works if the browser
is run with admin privileges.

Maybe you want to see for yourself: Go to YouTube from a limited user
account (not a power user or admin account), and you will see that it
does not work.

Best regards,

Matthias"

"Hi Matthias,

Thanks for your email. =To help me diagnose your issue, please click
or copy and paste the following link into your browser:

http://www.youtube.com/swf_test.html

This will generate some code under the Loading video player. Please
note that this video is designed to remain in that state and will
never play.

Please copy and paste the code that is generated in your reply to this
email.

"Hi Mydhili!

When I run the browser from a limited user account, I get the
following message for the link you have sent me:

No Flash detected..
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject
axo GetVariable version Failed
returned version:0

SWF Detect Flash version is: WIN 9,0,124,0

But there's no loading video player displayed. However, when I run the
browser with admin privileges, I do get a loading video player, and
the message displayed below is:

cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 15
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 14
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 13
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 12
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 11
cannot get ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 10
got ShockWaveFlash ActiveXObject object for 9
good version:9
SWF Detect Flash version is: WIN 9,0,124,0

Thanks for looking into that issue! :-)

Best regards,

Matthias"

"Hi Matthias,

Thanks for your reply. Looks like this is caused by a firewall or
internet blocker. These types of programs could block YouTube's media
stream. If you have a firewall, you might want to temporarily disable
it to see if the videos load. If the videos do load with the firewall
disabled, you would need to adjust the firewall settings to allow
streaming media from YouTube to pass the firewall. If you're not sure
how to do this, please contact the manufacturer of your firewall.

It's possible that the admin account on your computer allows you to
disable the firewall and watch videos while the other accounts don't
have enough privileges to disable the firewall. Please adjust these
settings and you should be able to watch videos on YouTube.

Hope this helps,

"Hi Mydhili,

have you given up on the bug on YouTube's website? It still doesn't
work, but in case that might help you, videos play fine when they are
embedded in a user profile, but not otherwise. For example, the video
on this profile plays without problems:

http://www.youtube.com/user/thaomusic

But when I try to play the following one, I get the message about my
Flash player being outdated:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57OtoBN_Jig

There seem to be other people with the same problem, and one of them
also says that videos on YouTube suddenly stopped working although
everything worked fine before:

"Hi there,

Thanks for your email. We have found that the users with ad-blocking
software enabled may not be able to see videos due to a conflict with
our flash detection code. And, you might also try disabling any
softwares like Web Accelerator or Ad blocking software which might be
causing this issue.

Hope this helps,

Mydhili

"Hello Mydhili,

the problem with YouTube still persists, what's going to happen next?
I still can't play videos on YouTube without administrator privileges,
while it works on all other video sites! When are you finally going to
fix that bug on your website? It's really annoying to have to start my
browser as an administrator just for YouTube!

Best regards,

Matthias"

"Hi there,

Thanks for your email. As mentioned earlier, this is a localized issue
with your system and not a bug on our side. Please provide the
privileges to all profiles on your system to able to access
YouTube.com.

Hope this helps,

"Hi Mydhili,

I just completely uninstalled Flash using Adobe's uninstaller,
rebooted my machine and then reinstalled Flash, but I am still getting
that message about no Flash being installed. My other computer has a
clean install of Windows XP with Flash installed, and the problem is
the same.

Videos on other websites play without problem, and it even used to
work on YouTube until you guys did some strange update some months
ago. Now the videos only play with admin privileges!

When are you finally going to fix that bug?

Best regards,

Matthias"

The answer to my last email is still pending, but I don't expect it to
be very helpful. And if you have read the emails posted above, you may
be able to understand why. So just in case anyone from YouTube is
reading this:

- I DO NOT HAVE ANY FIREWALL OR AD BLOCKING SOFTWARE ON MY COMPUTER!
- I DO HAVE THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF FLASH INSTALLED!
- THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH MY COMPUTER!
- THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR WEBSITE!
- YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR ONLINE HELP CENTER ARE USELESS!

Best regards,

Matthias
