Subject: Not able to play a video? What's your error message?
It seems like many of us here are having trouble with watching videos,
and there's also some confusion regarding the error messages. I'm
going to try and simplify things:

1. Error message: Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an
old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player

We recommend: Following the steps listed at
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=57669

Additionally, you could try clearing your browser's cache and cookies
and try again.

If this doesn't fix it please continue reading.

2. Error Message: We're sorry this video is no longer available (the
steps below are also applicable to the previous error message)

We recommend: Disabling software such as Google Web Accelerator which
might be causing this issue. We have found that users with ad-blocking
software enabled may not be able to see videos due to a conflict with
the flash detection code.

Please add to this thread with quick fixes that helped you with the
issue.

3. Error message- “Your video is unavailable”-

We recommend:  Editing your video's tags, title or description. This
might help you play it. Please remember this is only for a video that
our site said was Live!. Also, it's only applicable to a video that
was uploaded by you. In this case,

For updates on this, please visit our Current Site Issues Page at
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/static.py?page=known_issues.cs

Please know we're working on making all this work without a glitch and
would love to hear any workarounds from you. In the
meanwhile, we appreciate your patience, and truly regret the
inconvenience.

Thanks,
YouTube Anna

You might also want to check out your browser if you're using FF 3.0
(latest release) APPARENTLY this is an ongoing issue with many -

For the past several months, each time a video is finished downloading
on you tube, I can't play it back, and there are no error messages. I
just hit the play button, and nothing happens. How do I fix this?

No one should be using Google Web Accelerator in the first place
(unless that certain security exploit has been fixed since, and I
still don't recommend it or any other program like it).

I'm using the new 3.0.1 beta of firefox, I've never had Google Web
Accelerator, and youtube videos just refuse to load. "We're sorry,
this video is no longer available." Obscure videos, that I don't want
to watch will load, but anything I want to watch simply won't (MOST
videos. One in ten works.). I'm getting really frustrated. Does anyone
know if this is a firefox bug and will be fixed?

I don't think it is a firefox problem.I've had firefox for ages now
and all the videos used to work. It's only in the last week or ten
days that it started with the "We're sorry story"  I think it is a
Youtube problem. I could always watch anything - I have not changed
anything on my pc, nor do I have any accelerators, so why would the
problem be on my pc ??  PLUS there are hundreds of people having the
same problem. Must be Youtube.

It's possible that it's Youtube's fault, but frankly, a lot of people
are just stupid and don't care to think. If it doesn't work in
Firefox, Safari, and/or Internet Explorer (ugh) THEN you have a
problem. However, if you're using a pimped-out Firefox 3 with a bunch
of non-sense add-ons, don't come crying to Youtube.

Yeah, I was beginning to think that too. Although, it's not happening
to any of my friends, but it seems to be reported around the internet
alot in the last week. I wonder if it's an Australian problem? Nothing
works in IE, either. Although, one time I did get a video to work in
Flock that didn't in firefox, but then others stopped loading in all
browsers. It's happening on both my computers. I'm wondering if I
should contact TPG, my ISP?

Also I disabled all my addins for firefox, and still the same issue.
Upgraded to Flash Player 10 beta, and re-installed Java, same issue.

I wish YouTube would acknowledge this problem, it's too widespread and
ongoing for them to do and say nothing about it.

I have tried everything described in the help forums and as I can't
contact YT directly I have no idea what to do......
Any ideas???

It can be anything really - if you were using FF - I'd say that's the
culprit. But since you're not - it could be that you're being censored
from some place along the www highway - and even hijacked. You need to
see what's running in your app box and remove anything that doesn't
belong there. For an idea of what you're up against check -
http://www.merijn.org/programs.php

Download and follow instructions.

Then check to see if you're using the latest flash plugin. Uninstall
and reinstall that. Then run a registry cleaner. Make sure your
machine is a clean one. Spyware, malware and useless files included in
the clean.

It's the same, no matter what browser. Australian internet isn't
filtered or anything, either.
There's nothing untoward in my processes, either. I wish we could
contact youtube directly. They've made this extremely hard. You'd
think they'd have employees lurking these forums...

I have uploaded 11 videos. The third currently only displays the
message, "We're sorry, this video is no longer available." One of
three possible reasons for this is given by Help Center >
Troubleshooting > Common Error Messages as, "the video's been removed
for violating our Terms of Use." If that were the case, would YouTube
inform the uploader, or does removal happen silently?

There's a movie quote somewhere that says: *I think we're alone*......

In other words, don't expect much from the Powers That Be unless
you're into petitions and making a lot of noise And I mean A LOT of
NOISE. There's strength in numbers. If enough people complain - LOUDLY
in the right direction - maybe something will move. But really, don't
count on on it because you could be waiting a long time. Best bet
GOOGLE it - because there's always someone, somewhere who's been there
before and found a solution.

I typed the error message into Google, and found a YouTube "not
available" video with 293 comments on it, to which I added my thanks
to xsmitzonianx whose advice to IE users was to add the characters
&fmt=18  to the end of the URL at the top of the page.

&fmt=18

Anna,

I can't get anything embedded from YouTube to load on any site I
usually link from, and I am not receiving any error messages from
YouTube at all.  They simply do not load.

The files all are still marked as available for embedding on the main
YouTube site.
They have nothing in common other than being from YouTube.
They were running perfectly earlier, and then just stopped.

You Tube is the ONLY site that offers embedded videos which are
refusing to run, so I feel the issue has to be on You Tube's end.

Well, that's interesting... the '&fmt=18' is used to identify the
'High Quality' video viewing pages... sounds to me like the whole
'High Quality' business is causing quite a few problems.  Or in this
case, it doesn't seem that people are able to view standard quality.

That's been happening to me too: "We're sorry, this video is no longer

This worked for me:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Uncheck
'Automatically detect setings'.

Hope it works for you to. C:
