Why is youtube being so ignorant in this. Install the latest version
of flash blablabla java blablklabla.
yes this might be helpfull for some unexperienced surfers who don't
know about that. But come on since a few days a lot of people who do
know about flash / java are getting the same errors.Ive been a youtube
user for years and since a few days im getting the 'an error occured
message at random.' sometimes a movie wont play a few minutes later
the same movie will play perfectly. Other times scrolling te time bar
a little bit forward helps. But fact is tha there is someting wrong
with Youtube.
And if been designing websites for 10 years so please dont tell me to
check my java or flash. I know the drill. No result.
it doesn't work in latest IE 8, FF and Google Chrome 1.0.154.59. I got
java (the latest) installed, javascripts enabled in all browsers. Some
videos won't play in simple quality, while in HQ/HD play. But others
won't play even in HD or HQ, but simple will. And there are videos
where even simple or high quality won't play. (I even tried to
completely uninstall JAVA and flash plugins and did a fresh install of
them, restarted pc etc..).
It seems to be a YT problem, not my installations of java/enabled
javascript/latest flash plugin.. Please investigate this problem from
your side...

Tried all this... no help. The error message started to occur when I
upgraded Firefox. However, have also tried Explorer and can't watch on
that either - very frustrated - such a waste of time!!!

hello
i have the same problem some days now... i did all the things you
recomend...
uninstalled.. installed above flash,java..... nothing that i do seems
to help..and all this started suddenly i didnt made any new changes in
my pc...some videos i can whatch and some i cant....
so i guess this is youtube problem.
I get the same thing with my HP pc running Windows XP pro, with all
updates installed and all current versions of related software
installed as well. No amount of tackling the problem gets any
results. I tried three different browsers, and uninstalled and
reinstalled Flash for each. Some videos do play, maybe 1 in 20, and I
find that if I use the suggestions that come up in the player when a
video is done, it continues to work. But if I choose from any other
category on the screen, the same error message comes up.
Another strange thing that makes me think the source of the bug isn't
YouTube is that my wife's Mac G4 runs everything perfectly. All
videos I cannot play on this play there without fail. I have the
current Mac OS 10.5.6 running on it.
Whatever the problem is, I have to discontinue using YouTube as it is
unreliable, please let me know when this problem is fixed.
Hey Liz,
Can you tell me why, after doing ALL of what you recommended, I still
have this issue?
I can watch ANY youtube video that is embedded
on other sites.
I can watch ANY feature video on a youtube user's
channel.
My success at just randomly watching any video I
want is shot down by that famous message....
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of
Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."
It is hit and miss- sometimes I can watch a video, sometimes it gives
me this message.

I have Windows Vista and have found that if I right click on Internet

view the videos. Works everytime. If I click on Internet Explorer
on
the desktop I get the same error message you get.

First - Liz, _please_ make some kind of appearance once in a while
here. I get the feeling that this issue is seriously not being given
any attention - and it's a _real_ issue!
Second, I've found a major part of the problem on my site - WebWasher.
We're locked behind a webwasher proxy/filter in my company. If I try
using my laptop with an unfiltered network I get YouTube just fine
(meaning that this problem disappears).
I have a feeling that WebWasher causes my browser to receive some sort
of modified version of the webpage that YouTube sends it. But I am no
web expert - I don't know if there isn't some other / more complex
explanation (such as YouTube sensing WebWasher in some way and sending
a different page, compared to the unfiltered browsing experience).

I have this problem too. I have done everything that you have
suggested like download new flash player and Java script is enabled
and still cannot view the videos. I’ve been having this trouble for a
few weeks now.

On some YouTube pages (But not all) I get the following message;
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of
Adobe's Flash"
I have version 10.0.22.87 installed.
I have uninstalled then reinstalled it using the above method.
Is this problem because my version of Adobe Flash is too new for the
code on some YouTube pages?
Eg.
if(myVersion != youtubeVersion) { Can't display }
and not
if(myVersion < youtubeVersion) { Can't display }
I get the same results with any browser.
Eg. Internet Explorer, Netscape etc.
Here is a list of pages that don't work;
Same test results with the following browsers;
Internet Explorer 7.0
Internet Explorer 8.0
Netscape 7.1
Netscape Navigator 9.0
Mozilla Firefox 3.0
Opera (IE) 8.0
Opera (Netscape) 9.62
NeoPlanet 5.2
Apple Safari 3.1
Apple Safari 3.2
AOL 9.0
Google Chrome 1.0
WebWindow 0.00.0019

Hello,
I have followed all you great suggestions only to find out it was not
adobe it never was. I had to uninstall my java and download the newest
version and install it. And that did it it works perfect. The older
versions of java do not work well with the new adobe. Hope this
helps :D

Had the same annoying error message across multiple browsers for
days. After repeated attempts to fix the problem using the tips
posted here, I finally discovered what the culprit was: my Norton
Personal Firewall settings!
I found that all I needed to do was disable the "Ad Blocker" option in
Norton...and eureka! I was finally able to play YouTube videos again
-- no restart needed! *whew*
I'm not getting any specific error messages, just general playback
issues. Scroll bar jerks across the screen, videos play at 1 or 2
frames per second, and the "loading" flash icon is constantly on the
screen, only it's not spinning around like it's actually loading, it's
like it's stuck in some sort of loop with only 2 or 3 of the little
circles repeating again and again.
Now I've done everything you can think of including deleting cache and
cookies, reinstalling Flash, updating Firefox to the latest version,
uninstalling any possible conflicting add-ons...EVERYTHING. And also,
seeing as how every single other Flash site on the internet...The
Daily Show, Ted Talks, Break, The Onion...any other site you can think
of that uses Flash works with ZERO issues, I'm going to go out on a
limb here and say that the problem is on Youtube's end, as others here
have stated.
I try not to post because usually the issue's resolved before I get
frustrated enough to come post about it, but it's going on a week or
so now. Even videos that do actually play I have to pause and let them
buffer. And I can go immediately to Speakeasy and do a speed test and
max out my connection, so again, I seriously doubt it's on our end.
Wish I could be more help but other than telling you I've tried
everything I'm out of ideas.

It is just a few videos that don't seem to work for me, some are fine.
It's strange, I mean the videos worked last night, but not this
morning, and my PC was off so there couldn't have been any automatic
updates or file changes or anything that might have interfered.
I have tried all of the solutions listed by all of the people who have
commented here, and still nothing.
I have gone as far as re-installing graphics card drivers and updating
them, getting windows updates, latest flash after uninstalling it.
Then tried older versions of flash to see if I could get it working
with them, but nothing.
I'll keep checking back here anyways to see if anyone finds a new
solution to the problem.
