I also disabled and later removed my anti virus programm, but the
message "An error occured, please try again later" is still there,
when a clip is switching to the next clip in several players.
This is already going on for 5 weeks now.
I tried all the available possibilities given in this forum, but still
no succes.
It all started at the moment, when the HQ button appears in the
player.
I have this problem on 3 computers, so I think it is not a personel
computer issue, but a YOUTUBE issue. Unforetunatly the YOUTUBE crew
does not respond to this problem.
Here's an example of the problems I'm having. It's already a low frame
rate video so should play with little trouble at all. Perhaps it has
something to do with the initial encode? Like it's only happening to
files rendered in .wmv or a specific audio codec, etc? Just an idea,
hopefully it'll help.

Is this the only way to have players on your site that play utube
playlists. This is major disruptive to my site,, So, my question is..
if you tube is not going to fix this and nothing seems to work, then
is there any other players you can put on your site and embed a
playlist. I will have to remove the players form my site. I am going
to start searching. Big major disappointment..

this sounds like what happened to me: i was watching and downloading
videos on internet explorer till day before yesterday, all of a sudden
i can't get the video! the page opens, but no movement. when i right
click there is not sign of the usual "downloaad with realplayer,
though flash player is still marked.
i tried with google chrome, videos open and play, but i don't have
the download option at all. however i can view and download videos
from other sites like CNN and The Times (UK), even the youtube ones.
so this is a youtube problem, but what on earth is going on? computers
make me paranoid
i'm glad i'm not the only one.

How do you uninstall Java and where can I download/install the latest
version of Java from?
I am using Windows XP and most browsers. What's your OS (operating
system) and browser?
I have been struggling with this issue for a long time as well. The
thing that was most annoying to me (and all of you I'm sure) is that I
knew flash player was installed and working properly. I could watch
videos on any other site. I was even able to play some youtube videos,
just not all of them.
I tried everything that youtube had suggested (uninstall/install
flashplayer, enable java, turn off pop-up blocking, fix security
settings, etc). I've also tried other solutions (uninstall/install
java, trying to verify if flashplayer is really installed, trying
different browsers). Nothing worked and the feedback from youtube has
been a joke (seriously.... youtube needs to work on their customer
service and technical support skills). Luckily, I found out what was
causing the problem on my computer... Norton Anti-Virus. After reading
through this discussion board I see that others have come to the same
conclusion.
After disabling Norton, I was able to view all youtube videos. On
closer inspection, I came to realize that if I disabled "ad blocking"
in addition to "pop-up blocking" in my Norton Anti-Spam settings, I
could view videos without disabling my entire internet security. I
realize this solution may not work for everyone, but I'm starting to
think most of our problems (or at least those that can't be fixed by
following youtubes instructions) are probably caused by some type of
internet security software. Whether you have AdAware, Spybot, Norton,
McAfee, etc... I would recommend working with those instead of driving
yourself crazy uninstalling, rebooting, and installing again.
Seriously, I tried uninstalling/installing like 50 times. Don't be
like me. Try it once and then move on, especially if you know that
flashplayer works on other websites.
I don't think youtube can or will do anything to resolve this problem.
Perhaps something at youtube changed recently and everyone's computer
is handling the issue differently. In any case, I think that each
individual person will have to find their own solution.
PS. I just realized that all of the videos I couldn't see before have
ads (click here for this, click here for that... it seems they all
connect to other videos). This is probably "the recent change" with
youtube that I mentioned above. It definitely explains why I had to
remove "ad blocking" from my internet security. Thought this
information could be helpful for you guys.
i am having the exact same problem since the last three days, every
thing you say. your problem began earlier though.
have you been able to solve this? i recently downloaded google chrome,
can see videos with it, but can't download them. my sister, on the
other hand, can. so what's up? any help will be welcome!

I have to agree that this is looking like it's a Youtube problem. I've
never had issues watching videos until three days ago, when I suddenly
got the "update your flash player" message. Of course, I did just
that, and followed every bit of advice Liz gave when that wound up not
working- I'm not computer illiterate, and I know that I have the
latest flash player installed, and I know that I have javascript
enabled on both my Firefox and Safari browsers (I used both to see if
I would be successful with one, but I was not). The only type of
success I ever had was during the first day I encountered this
problem, where I read somewhere that pop-up blockers may interfere
with the videos playing. I disabled mine in my browsers, and all of a
sudden, the videos worked again- but for some reason the next morning,
though my settings had gone unchanged, the error message came back
again.
Unfortunately, I don't have Windows and don't have Norton AntiVirus
(or any virus scanner), so I really can't benefit from any advice to
disable that or download Windows patches for Flash, etc. But
considering the amount of people who have been experiencing this
problem as of late, and considering I can watch any other videos,
INCLUDING Youtube videos that are embedded ELSEWHERE and not on the
site ITSELF, I think this is definitely a Youtube related glitch. I
will continue to look back to this forum for anything else I can do,
but for the past 3 days and as of right now, it looks like I'm screwed
when it comes to watching Youtube. Great.

well, after three days my youtube is playing properly again! there had
been no warning or notification of any kind, by the way, and i don't
have norton antivirus either, but kaspersky. i did disable my pop-up
blocker, it didn't help though.
yesterday i had found that i could see videos on CNN and other sites,
even youtube clips, but if i went through www.youtube.com. i couldn't.
well, this afternoon i was looking for something and so googled it;
the google page offered a video link from youtube. i clicked and it
worked, i could also download again. i tried a couple more like that,
through google, all fine. then i accessed youtube.com on the browser
and i was able to open, see and download videos.
i have a theory: it seems clear from all the posts here that
youtube.com is malfunctionning, affecting computers at random and
clearing itself up randomly too. or is there some compatibilty between
google and youtube which permitted google to act as an "unblocker"? i
have now enabled my pop-up blocker again; so far so good, it hasn't
affected anything.
whatever it is, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays ok. hope
this helps some of you.

This is bull. You guys have had months to fix this problem, and yet
you apparently do nothing to help us besides occasionally post advice,
when the problem is obviously your fault. My Flash is fine and I have
javascript enabled. Every other video site and about 1/2 the videos I
try here also work. I've put up with this for weeks, trying to figure
out a solution. I've tried everything posted on here already. HELP

i have the same problem since some days ago, and it has something to
do with ads. i use firefox with adblock plus, and i can watch videos
on youtube if i whitelist the page. if i activate adblock, i get the
error message.
so youtube wants to force users to whitelist the site in adblockers,
firewalls, whatever.
lemme think a moment about it...
hm...
no.
i don't like to be forced to do something. i like to be nicely asked.
