As always, thanks for visiting the Community Help Forums :)
We've heard some of you mention you're having trouble watching videos
because you're receiving the *dreaded* "enable JavaScript / old
version of Adobe Flash player" error message. Yikes!
If you're receiving this error message and unable to play videos,
here's what I recommend to get you back on track and able to watch
videos successfully again. Please follow the steps listed below...
2. Once you've uninstalled Flash, then go to the Adobe site and
download the most recent version of the Flash player:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
3. At this point, completely exit your browser (don't just close the
window, exit the browser completely).
4. Only now, once you've exited your browser, can you install the new
version of the Flash player you just downloaded. Install the Flash
player.
5. Finally, open your browser again. Go to YouTube and try playing a
video-- the video should now play!
6. If the video *still* doesn't play, make sure you have JavaScript
enabled (turned on) in your browser.
If you're not sure how to do this, do a Google search for your browser
and then "enable JavaScript". You should easily find instructions on
how to enable Javascript.
Here are a couple of examples for Firefox, Internet Explorer, and
Opera users:

Hello, my name is Dave and I am from The NETHERLANDS.
I have the same problem on my computer ("An error occured, please try
again later"), when using one of my players and I already tried many
suggestions from other people.
Nothing works.
Now I tried the way, Liz has written and it did not work either.

I have tried everything, including using four different browsers,
nothing works. i know that flashplayer is installed on each browser, i
can play flash games, i can play videos on other sites, i can even
play youtube videos posted on other sites. I am convinced there is a
problem with the youtube website and that the staff should be doing
something to rectify the problem. Youtube used to work just fine for
me I have no idea what happened but I think it's up to the
administrators to go back and see what went wrong.
The problem has to be from YouTube since with my Firefox-3.0.9 with
Flash Player 10 installed works well on Google Videos as well as all
web sites with FP running anywhere else. It's only on YouTube that
this problem occurs.
Still nothing. This can only be an internal YouTube issue that cannot
recognize that the browser is using the most recent FP and I imagine
that within the next few days, once there are more and more people wit
this same error, most likely some at YouTube will look into it more
closely.
In the meantime, after many many hours of trials, I am off YouTube but
will check back now and then. If I find anything else, I'll be back to
post it here.

I found a solution!!! I couldn't comment either as well, so all I did
was clear my cache. I followed the instructions on how to allow
commenting which was clearing cache. ANd it work. Everything is
working again.

have Vista 32 bit, SP1.
I have always been able to watch all youtube videos, but it seems like
one day I started seeing the 'Hello, you either have JavaScript turned
off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash
player.' messages 'flash' momentarily- then the video would display
and play.
Then I started getting that same message instead of the video.
Now here is the kicker- Sometimes, I can watch the videos, sometimes I
cant it seems random.
I have found out that If I go to ANY user channel, I can watch their
'feature video' just fine. If I click on any video in their channel- I
may get that flash player error message or I may not, but generally I
get the error message.
I started researching the problem and suggestions led me all over the
internet from adobe to microsoft.. I have uninstalled adobe
flashplayer completely, and reinstalled it. I have followed Adobe's
directions on resolving permission issues via microsofts
suggestions....
I still have the same problem.
What puzzles me is that I can watch ANY youtube video that is embedded
on other sites, I can watch ANY feature video on a youtube user's
channel... but alas, my success at just randomly watching any video I
want is shot down by that famous message....
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of
Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."

I've tried these steps over & over again. I mean, it's not exactly
rocket science, so what's going on? I have the latest version of the
flash player and it has been verified on the Adobe Flash Play er
website. In addition, sometimes I am able to watch one video, then
when I click on another, I get the same error message. All I want to
do is watch videos, so why is this so difficult? I can watch videos
all over the web except here. I used to be able to watch videos
without any problems, but ever since I had to update both Firefox and
Adobe Flash player, I can no longer watch YouTube videos. Some help
here would be nice, as this is extremely frustrating and it appears
that I am not the only one with this problem. Thank you.

"An error occurred. Try again later." happened to me. I tryed
everything, but nothing worked. Then I downloaded the newest version
of Flash Player and - it f... finaly works!
Come on.. you can;t just let the whole (let alone even half) YouTube
community do this. This for sure is a YouTube problem and you just
can't simply tell your users to do a rather extensive uninstall etc..
Better is to try and find out what happened and why suddenly so many
many people having playback problems...

Also, one thing I've noticed: many of you say that you have Java
enabled... JavaScript and Java have very different functions-- so make
sure you definitely have JavaSCRIPT enabled in your browser ;)
Another point to mention: often times when you upgrade to a new
version of your browser / run a new browser, the latest version of
Flash won't be auto-installed. This is why YouTube video's will
suddenly stop playing for you and why you'll receive this error
message. When this occurs,
-- uninstall the previous version of Flash
-- download the new version
-- exit all applications / browser
-- install the new version of Flash
Good luck guys ! Hope you're able to play videos again soon...

Hello, my name is Dave and I am from The Netherlands.
I tried since the beginning of all the ERROR messages, many tips over
and over again. I also formatted my computer to install the newest of
the newest software.
Result: 1) "An ERROR occured, please try again later" in every player
at random moments.
2) Every player has now a maximum of 50 clips, instead of
200.
My conclusion: It must be a YOUTUBE issue.
Suggestion: If YOUTUBE can not fix it, everybody leaves YOUTUBE and
try another one (No, just joking)
Many people depending on YOUTUBE for their own websites. If the
players does not work properly, then it will cost a lot of time to
rebuild a website.
Hope the problems (bugs) will be solved as soon as possible.
