We are pleased to announce the ability to "deep link" to YouTube
videos. This means you can now not only link to a YouTube video
itself, but you can also link directly to a specific time within each
video.
To create a deep link, append the following to the end of a YouTube
video URL: #t=1m15s. This says to link to the time 1:15 - you can
replace the numbers before the 'm' and the 's' with anything you like.
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY#t=1m18s.
As an additional bonus, if you mention a specific time in a video
comment, e.g. "haha 1:14 is funny", this will become a hyperlink.
Viewers can simply click on the time and the video will automatically
jump to the point you are referencing.
Let us know what you think of deep links. We'll be reading what you
all have to say as we think about ways of making YouTube even better!

And here most of us were, thinking this was going to end up
undocumented :P
A lot of people figured out the comment links, but didn't know that it
was possible to create URL's for video descriptions and external
sites.
As for the links in comments, I was only able to get it to work by
clicking the 'Post a Text Comment' link and posting the timecode in
that box, instead of the one that is usually visible below the
comments. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to work or not.
This is a feature I have been waiting a long time for!
I'm a bit disappointed on how this has been implemented though,
especially the URL links. It would be best to add some dedicated
buttons, for instance:
- A button could be added on the video player where you can pause at
the moment you want to link in a comment. Clicking this button will
send the time link into a comment.
- Also when paused, a URL box could have the preformatted link ready
for copy. It would also be helpful if the link in the comment could
also be right clicked and copied to get the URL, but I think that
would be harder to implement as that link would refresh the entire
page..

The deep link feature is very useful and natural.
You could also add the feature to specify the
end point of a video fragment. Such "fragment linking"
would be like highlighting some words in a sentence
(not just highlighting all till the end of the sentence).
And with an option to repeat the fragment you would have
a full "repeat AB" feature.
this cool! i would like to say something, is not about deep link is
about translate a video from one language to another automatically.
will this be possible? i was wondering it would be cool if u hit the
translate button on a video u don't understand the language and
converted to English.

I agree, I came here just to voice my opinion on the issue of this
being an almost hidden feature. I think an extension to the copy URL
bar "+min/+sec" (in red) could make this fit in nicely. Its too
hidden. and as for the comments from an author -- well that could be
an additional GUI change like annotations are.

I think that everything should be auto translated depending on the
country you've set in your profile. Some BBS boards dictate the
language of postings but the nature of YouTube is that its visual and
written comments can often come second to content, what I mean is its
truly international. Maybe hover over foreign text to get a yellow
hover box with your language in it.

I think it's a great feature. But it's quite difficult for a common
user to use it. And since it's not mentioned on the video pages no one
will use it at all.

1) I applaud to a great idea from YouTube (unfortunately this praise
just lost most of its value since I have been ordered to tone down on
criticizing YouTube, see http://help.youtube.com/group/youtube-feedback/browse_thread/thread/6... "Sans freedom to blame, no praise is credible", said Beaumarchais).
2) I add my strong support to abdylas' excellent suggestion to write
it seriously instead of its current status of a kid's tweak;
3) I suggest to rename it "Timed link" (clearer to user; in addition,
"deep link" is already used, with another meaning).
4) I agree with YouTube on making it simple (hence imperfect) for now,
and to make it more powerful (see the numerous very useful suggestions
in the previous posts) only when time allows to wrote them carefully
and reliably (too many YouTube kids tweaks and reckless fiddlings have
impaired the service yet).
Timed Links absent where needed, fail on "comments" page
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-
Current state isn't even a beta, see example in
"The day is near"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvUndiQbxTc
- links page are wrongly inserted where they don't make sense
(inside the Time Stamps I duly inserted in my posts:
Mon 30 Jun 2008 18:23 GMT, Mon 30 Jun 2008 18:24 GMT, etc)
- links are NOT inserted where they would be particularly useful:
00:07 Dagen är nära (Day is close)
00:12 Mörkret försvinner (Darkness is going)
etc (inside about all of these lines)
- links fail on the "comments" page, try "Mon 30 Jun 2008 18:23 GMT"

It was an excellent idea when you had the video start about four
seconds before the actual time on the link. I was disappointed to see
it changed back to the exact time. At least give it a one or two
second lead-in.

Can you deep link within own video without reloading.
To make interactive video. ie
Q1 do you think deep link is good
A pause press YES or NO
YES 0:20 "Great"
NO 0:30 "Thats a pitty"

I want to deep link inside Annotations to the same video but
Annotations wont take URLs longer than v=11digits
Spent all day making an interactive video game
