We are pleased to announce four new features for video embeds:
* High-quality start images (thumbnails) Before you press play
on embedded YouTube videos, the thumbnails for the video will be
presented in high-quality. We're pleased with the results let us
know if you agree.
* Search in embeddable player At the close of an embedded video,
along with the usual recommended videos and URLs, a search box will
appear. Not only will you be able search from within the embedded
player, you will be able to watch videos through the same window.
That's right, you can search all of YouTube from the comfort of your
favorite blog, news, or humor page.
* Integrated video annotations Annotations enable video
producers to incorporate text information into their videos, create
choose your own adventure-style stories or add links to any YouTube
video. People watching videos through the embedded player can now join
the fun.
* Integrated closed captions Back in August we started allowing
video creators to add captions to their videos. Closed Captions are
now available in embedded videos like this one:

How about letting people embed their live stream onto their website?
If you do this, you will have to update the design of the streams
flash player because it is still using the old youtube player design.
And howabout adding a video category named "Sexy"?
Can video uploader change annotations AFTER it has been embedded to
another site?
If so, what stops him/her (the uploader) from changing or adding
annotations that are offensive and damaging for the site that video
appears on?
Why can't annotations be turned off in the embed code?
Why don't you add an option to make the code valid for xhtml 1.0 too?
I guess it needs few minutes to develop this feature and it would be
appreciated by those who are concerned about standards.
The Search in embeddable player is not my cup of tea. It wouldn't be
so bad if it was smaller and only showed after a video plays. Right
now it is MASSIVE and is right there at the top of the player all the
time. This is distracting from the preview image and the other content
around it, on my sidebar.
I will be removing the player from my side bar, until the search box
is adjusted in size and is not present until after the video is
played. As a note I have now seen that there are fewer clicks on the
video since the search box has shown up.
I'm extremely upset about both the search bar and the fact that videos
that I don't want on my website where I have my videos embedded show
up at the bottom of the screen. I guess I'm going to have go back to
using a different video flash player and stop embedding YouTube
videos. You should have given us the choice. Instead, the search bar
and other videos just show up on my site. This makes me rethink using
YouTube at all. I'll probably just find another way to do things.
Didn't anyone at YouTube think people would find this invasive and
offense? Geesh!

Could we resize the player's buttons and size of the search panel?
Imagine when I resize my embedded YT player, the search panel covers
1/3 of my mini player.. and it's really comical when the play button
is so big compared to the video size. Could locked resizing be done?

I must protest against such a horrible upgrade that puts search bar on
the start of embeded youtube videos. It was great to have that option
when it was at the end of the video, but now it looks awfull.
This way Youtube will soon loose a lot of traffic from people that
used to embed videos on their blogs and web sites, and their visitors.

I do not care for the new search box. It has just started showing up
on my website. I have a featured video in a sidebar which is
considerably smaller in size. Half the screen is now taken up by a
search box. I can see the advantage for YouTube, what's in it for me,
except that I will probably loose traffic now because of this. Thanks
for screwing up a good thing. I've considered switching to another
service, this may just be the thing to motivate that change.
I'm in complete agreement with others who have expressed their
dissatisfaction with the changes YouTube made 24-hours ago to the
search feature: it's far too big and distracting and it shouldn't be
displayed before a video has been viewed. This is nothing more than a
desperate attempt by Google to scrape visitors from sites that use
embeds to display videos on their websites.
I've removed all the embeds on my site and reverted to our normal
video player. I will not use YouTube embeds until this search box is
removed or made an option.

Please get rid of the Search bar at the beginning of embedded videos.
It really makes embedded videos look horrible. Showing up after the
video plays is great but before the video it just looks tacky.
YouTube is a great tool for Video Podcasts to allow viewers to watch
without downloading, but with the new search bar at the top when the
page loads I think will confuse viewers.
The search function looks terrible on myspace.. i had lovely videos
stacked up, like 15 of them, now its so ugly and unaestetic, i will be
forced to use vimio..
please i strongly oppose this blight .. do something. you will lose my
500,000 views a year

They removed it, but now the search box is back, although it doesn't
show until the mouse gets close to it. I'm trying to be
understanding, but I just don't like the thing period.

I'm unsure if this is the proper location for this complaint of sorts
but it seems related to the embed technology. It is, however,
regarding the advertisements on top of my videos. I don't care how
effective the advertising gimmick is, it interferes with my experience
as a youtube user too drastically. I don't mind ads all over the rest
of the page but when they are on top of my video, and perhaps there is
text underneath it, it makes gives me upset feelings of not just
youtube but I start to get angry at the product being advertised, and
I'm sure no one wants the "annoying" connotation to their product or
service. Come on youtube, think about the users, your becoming too
corporate. Without us you have nothing.
Additionally, this is an unmoderated forum so I am wondering if there
is an official place for complaints like this.
I just saw today on one of the forums I use that embedded videos are
now popping up "related video" thumbnails over the top of the videos
instead of waiting until they finish. Are you trying to irritate
people? What on Earth was wrong with waiting till the video finished?
Why mess up the content?
I hope this is the right place to put this. I really, really hate
that the "reated videos" now pop up BEFORE the end of an embedded
video, completely wiping out the end of the video. It was a good
feature when it came after the video ended, but, come on, guys! On
many videos, the last five seconds are the most important! Sheesh.
Should I scrap you and use Funnyordie.com?

is it against the TOS to use a embedded video player of our own
creation and set the flashvars file to the flv file of the video we
want played? or should i stop? in truth, your video players interface
is trying to hard to have features, just for the sake of having
features... i really prefer just making a player of my own, without
all the bells and whistles, so i hope i can still be able to do that!
(btw, this is for vids of {PBJ} (steam group in which i am in charge
of programming, media, webmaster, and co-executive :P) so obviously i
wont do that for music vids or things with disabled embedding... (even
though it is very easy to just look at the source code ;) )

When I look at the emebed code for these three players, it starts off
with javascript. Then I tried to create a fourth player this Friday,
and it had no opening javascript. Then when I went to preview the
thing in i.e7 under DreamWeaver, the thing bombed out, and would not
run.
Wha happened to the embed code script engine? How can I get it to
give me the full script again, so I can embed more players? Because
right now I cannot embed players at all, which is not ideal.
Thank you for trying to improve things, but please also help those of
us who are just trying to get things to work, and cannot get a
response from the forums.

Hi.
I admit I'm new to this.
What does embedding mean?
How can I increase traffic to my location?
Can I do one performance on YouTube that
is not embedded because it is disabled,
but enable embedding for other performances I do
on videos?
What is streaming and streaming videos?
How does that differ from embedding?
Thank you for considering my questions.
I hope your replies will help to increase traffic to my site
and maybe help others to learn the basics.

Yes, I have questions about YouTube imbedding. I have been playing
with it & my own miniproductions with pages I purchased at Google to
develop. I love Google. I got into AdSense through a nurse colleague
who started using computers for listing nursing email directories. He
has made a retirement stream of income from the AdSense Google Ads for
content program with basically a phone book format for nurses.
I am truly excited about the application of YouTube content to pages I
design for nurses & others who travel. I have a start page that
includes practical tools for travelers. At what ever level of care
provider the user is, there is a link for them. A grandmother
accomanying a child, a nanny, college student, all can benefit in
addition to the professionals I encourage to use the page.
I am planning a full line of infromational Public Service type video
units for production this winter & spring. I have the rudiments of a
studio to produce original content videos with original music.
I have a regular writing post at CaliforniaChronicle.com. They have a
publishing format wherein I can include my own prifle info & imbedded
code. I have placed it in the updated format. This is what it looks
like:
http://www.californiachronicle.com/articles/view/74959
Now, I do not own the CaliforniaChronicle. I write for it. As such I
have this discreet area to place my own page stuff. And the player
sticks out as you can see. At last it actually works.
I tried a variety of other players & in other site locations. I
placed one on An Ounce of Prevention, a developing Vermont page at my
start page for webineda at the footer, & it never showed any videos,
just the frames which were blank.
I think one works on a linked INEDA blogspot. Yet no revenue to
date. Do you recommend using the Western Union option should I start
making the streams run? For payment that is?
Since this is all rolling off beta, I realize their are glitches. I
really want it to work for me though, & earn revenue for INEDA.
Please analyze the page above to tell me how I can better format it.

i'm with you on that one. just another 'dangly' distracting from the
clip which, after all is the whole point of the window in the first
place. i think sometimes devs just like putting stuff in because they
like putting stuff in. either that or they're worried that if they are
not doing something they'll get their marching orders.
